Seasonal Projects
School Supply Drive – Come join SU146 on the first community project for 2011-2012. We will be collecting specified school supplies for GISD. The troop who donates the most will win an ice cream social hosted by the Service Unit.
Good Turn Project- In October scouts helped collect usable clothing and household items and donated them to Goodwill. Sales funded job training for people in the community.
Veterans Day Cards- The Walnut Creek Branch Library will present a holiday card making event for Veteran’sDay Friday, Nov. 11. Please contact the library for more info.
Warm Hearts, Warm Hands- In November, scouts help their sister girl scouts by collecting new gloves/mittens, hats, and scarves for those that needed them.
Relay for Life – The American Cancer Society’s community event to raise funds. More details to come.
Year Round Projects
Cards for Kids- Create handmade and painted cards for children and youth worldwide facing poverty, homelessness, or a difficult situation.
Let’s Say Thanks!- This website gives you an opportunity to send a free printed postcard to U.S. military personnel stationed overseas showing your support and appreciation for their service to our country. Pick out a thank you card, personalize your message and hit send. Xerox will print it and send it.
Meet and Greet the Troops- Meet and greet our troops as they arrive from the airport for a two-week R&R (rest and recuperation) to encourage and support our deployed military.
Operation Happy Socks- Take unwanted socks and turn them into catnip toys for homeless cats in animal shelters.
Ronald McDonald House Pop Tab- Pop tabs collected help pay for a place for seriously ill children and their families to stay while they are out of town for medical treatment.
Silver Lining Program- Increase connections through new friendships and positive changes for people in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and people with mental retardation living in state schools/centers.
